I am proud of my country today.
Chest thumpingly,
Cartwheels through my back yard,
Proud.
Marriage equality passed in Maine, Maryland, and Washington as a result of last night’s election. These states join Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont in accepting same sex marriage.
I dream of a day when my home state, Mississippi, will be added to that list.
I hope one day soon we’ll live in a country where everyone has the right to marry the person they love. After all, marriage is a right not a privilege, and everyone should experience wedded bliss with the one he or she loves.
