Mandy’s Blogger Book Club Summer Selection: America, You Sexy Bitch by Michael Ian Black and Meghan McCain

 Hi everyone! Welcome to the 1st official Mandy’s Blogger Book Club kick off post!

The Summer selection for Mandy’s Blogger Book Club is America, You Sexy Bitch (Published by Da Capo Press) by Michael Ian Black and Meghan McCain. I picked this book randomly in the middle of the night last week in the midst of Book Expo America madness while trolling Twitter in an Ambien haze. This is a weird coincidence, because this is very similar to how Michael Ian Black came up with the idea to write America, You Sexy Bitch with Meghan McCain. He was on Ambien on Twitter late at night and asked Meghan to write a book with him. The book is a look at America from a liberal perspective (Black) and a conservative perspective (McCain) as the authors travel across the country in an RV together over the course of a month. I’m glad I impulsively decided to start a book club promoting this particular book for a couple of reasons. The U.S. is gearing up for an election and the country is more politically charged than ever. So, I think this selection will lead to many great conversations amongst the bloggers that participate. (You don’t have to be one of the 47 bloggers that receive a free copy to participate in the link up btw. See the video below for details.) I am going to have a couple of discussion posts throughout the time I cover the book on the site (July 20th – August 15). The other reason is I am a huge Michael Ian Black fan. His latest book could have been about the size and shapes of his poop, and I probably would have picked it.

I will post the official link up page on July 20th. I will also try to post a list of the 50 bloggers (see video for why 47 are being picked from the form) receiving free copies of the book sometime early next week. I hope to have the books in the mail by Monday.
