The New Orleans Saints Are Still My Team

I thought I would be writing this post after the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl. I’ve been biding my time assuming I would be able to write about my family’s love for the Saints after a 2012 Super Bowl win. Even though that didn’t happen what I have to say is still the same: The Saints are number one. Maybe not in the literal sense. Not this time. However, they will always be number one in the hearts of their fans and the community that they give so much to. Despite the loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Saints still have a legion of fans that bleed black and gold.

The Saints Have The Best Fans

We had season tickets for the first time this season. Wow! What a season it was! Our seats are on the plaza level a few rows behind “Whistle Head” and the Popes. They keep our section pumped up during every game. It has to be the best section in the Super Dome! Pictured Above: New Orleans Saints Super Fan Whistle Head

Cheering On The Saints Is A Family Affair

My husband and I both grew up throughout 70’s, 80’s and 90’s cheering on the Saints season after season. Despite the bouts of fans wearing paper bags over their heads and seasons with great pre-season games but disappointing regular season games, we were fans. They were are team.

In adulthood they’re still our team. They could have lost every game this season and we’d still love ‘em. But the fact is they’re awesome. Drew Brees is the best quarterback in the league breaking Dan Marino’s 27 year old single season passing record and Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham are record breakers as well.

This is the season where our children really began to cheer on the Saints. We even brought our oldest son (pictured above with my husband) to a couple of the pre-season games with us. During tonight’s game against San Francisco our two year old was running around the living room with his tiny, soft Saints football cheering, “Go Saints”!

Highlight of 2011

Drew Brees and Me

The highlight of my family’s year by far was when we got to meet Drew Brees at a Vicks Vapo Rub event in New Orleans. The PR company for Vicks invited a group of bloggers and their families to have dinner with Drew Brees and be a part of the press conference where he announced that he would be the first ever Vicks Vapo Rub Dad or VapoDad. My husband even got to ask Drew the first question at the press conference. It was an amazing experience for my family. Drew Brees took pictures and spent time talking with each family present. He is the nicest guy! The event was special for me because it was my first opportunity as a blogger to do something for my husband.

As we end the season on a bittersweet note, I’m looking forward to next season already. I can’t wait to get back in the Dome and cheer on the Saints!

Here is the Drew Brees commercial for Vicks Vapo Rub:

Isn’t his son the cutest little guy?

Many thanks to Vicks for including my family in the VapoDad event!
