The Backstory
My love affair with the Twilight books began several years ago. I devoured the books as they came out and quickly fell in love with Edward, Bella, and Jacob. By the time Breaking Dawn (the fourth book in the series) came out in 2008, I was a mom to a one-year-old, and I could definitely appreciate some er… aspects of Breaking Dawn. In fact during my second pregnancy, I read the book several times. This may seem weird to you. That’s okay. I am super weird. And I own it.
Why would a book about an idyllic wedding, a broken headboard, a demon baby pregnancy, and a fight to the death with the vampire bureaucracy/aristocracy (AKA Volturi) appeal to a pregnant woman?
It’s simple.
I heart Rosemary’s Baby.
What? That makes no sense?
Okay, I’ll explain. When I was three or four years old, I watched the movie Rosemary’s Baby for the first time. This quickly became one of my favorite movies. I loved Rosemary’s cute maternity clothes, her sophisticated Vidal Sassoon haircut, and her knack for solving anagrams with Scrabble tiles. I also, as a result of watching Rosemary’s Baby at such a young age, became very concerned and fascinated with the horrors of pregnancy. (It also led to some very weird scenarios between my Barbies.)So, it was no surprise to everyone that knows about my Rosemary obsession when I began watching it on a regular basis during my first pregnancy.
Cut to my second pregnancy. By the time I became pregnant a second time, I had a new weird pregnancy obsession to add to my Rosemary’s Baby fascination: Breaking Dawn. I am not sure how many times I picked up Breaking Dawn during my second pregnancy, but it was a lot. I suffered horrible morning sickness during that pregnancy, and whenever I felt really sick, reading the pregnancy sections of Breaking Dawn made me feel better.
I would think to myself, Things could always be worse. At least I’m not pregnant with a demon vampire baby.
So, I was super excited when Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn came out.

Two Tickets To Paradise
When Friday rolled around I couldn’t wait to see The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1. Due to a minor medical procedure earlier in the week, I was a little off my game and forgot to make plans to see the movie ahead of time. My sweet sister-in-law, Jenny took pity on me and agreed to go with me at the last minute. I didn’t tell Jenny that I was bringing along a date. When we were about halfway to the theater, I used what I call my “deep awkward voice” and said “Uh, I brought Edward.” She’s used to my shit crazy antics, so she just laughed.
The following pictures are from my movie date with Edward. Keep reading after the pictures for my thoughts on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1.
Edward hopped from my library shelf into my purse. He’s a sneaky vampire!

Edward drinks diet coke when he can’t get out to the woods to hunt.
Edward is a little late catching on to the planking craze. It’s okay. He’s just really old. (Another possible caption: Is that a straw in your pants or are you just happy to see me?)
I took all of the above pictures when no one was looking. (I’m sneaky too. Ha Ha) Since we still had a little time before the movie started, I tossed Edward to the side and started talking with Jenny. Then I got that feeling someone was looking at me. I looked up and a woman was staring holes through me. I looked over. Oops! Edward was sitting on top of my purse in the seat next to me. It totally looked like I sat him in a seat like he was going to watch the movie. If I were awesome I would have hissed, “Stop looking at my date. He’s mine.” Instead, I quietly put him in my purse with my head held high. I might be a weirdo, but I’m a proud weirdo. I’m pretty sure when my close friend Susan gave me the Edward doll for Christmas a couple of years ago she didn’t foresee me running around with it in my purse. Or maybe she did. She knows me so well.
What did I think of the movie? The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is my favorite of the franchise so far. Bill Condon did an awesome job bringing my favorite book of the series to the big screen. Bella’s wedding dress was beautiful. (I only wish they would have explained within the film how Alice picked out the dress. That would have made it even better.)
I loved the scenes on Isle of Esme. Especially the sex scene. Bow chicka wow wow! The aftermath with the broken bed and feathers everywhere was hilarious and exactly what I think readers of the series expected to see.
The only thing I would have changed about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 was the way the wolves communicated. It was a little bit like Spooky Buddies Twilight Edition for a brief scene in which Jacob breaks away from the pack. I liked Jacob’s “wolf vision” and I think the wolf pack action scenes would have been better if they would have stuck to filming from his POV with the wolf vision.
The scenes involving Bella’s pregnancy were way more graphic than I thought they were going to be. When that weird thing happens where Bella’s belly drops and they have to bring her to the family delivery room, I completely lost my shit. I’m pretty sure I screamed or made a really weird, loud noise. I watched the next ten minutes of the movie through my fingers. The special effects team was amazing during this sequence. Bella really appeared skeletal as if the baby were truly sucking the life out of her. I have no idea how they made Kristen Stewart look like that, but if it was CGI it looked very real.
The last scene of the film depicting Bella’s transformation into a vampire was awesome. Vampire’s are hot y’all! When she opened her eyes to reveal blood red irises, I was immediately ready to see The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Until then, I’ll sit my Edward doll back on his dusty shelf in the library.

Hey, I really loved your take on the movie. I also think the way Jacob’s pack communicated was a little off. First it was a little creepy like you said, and most importantly, it was hard to understand. Since the voices where altered, it became very hard to make out what they were saying. Also, in the scene when Bella is looking for something to wear, they should’ve made it known that Alice was the one that picked out the clothes. Love your blog, keep on!
Thanks Marisol!:)
Also, I agree completely. Alice could have hand her the suitcase as they were leaving for the honeymoon or had Bella say something as she was looking for something to wear. It was definitely confusing for viewers who haven’t read the books.
I loved your date. lol. You have a special brand of craziness that I can appreciate.
How funny! I really enjoyed the movie as well except for the music especially at the beginning and that wolf scene – it should have been visual flashes not talking wolves. Can’t wait for the next one though now!

I have never read or watched any of the twilight series. I have never had any desire to. But, after this post, I think my mind has changed
Wow, they did the birthing scene in part 1 already? What will they have left for part 2? Craziness. Pure craziness! Glad you survived the scene. I think anyone who may not have given birth may be slowly cringing inside wondering if there’s any truth to that in real life.
I was SO wanting to go see this, but we are in Germ Lock down due to an upcoming surgery so I am going to have to wait until it comes out on video…
SUPER BUMMED!!! I have heard it is great!!!
