Summary: A single day in Paris changes the lives of three Americans as they each set off to explore the city with a French tutor, learning about language, love, and loss as their lives intersect in surprising ways.
Josie, Riley, and Jeremy have come to the City of Light for different reasons: Josie, a young high school teacher, arrives in hopes of healing a broken heart. Riley, a spirited but lonely expat housewife, struggles to feel connected to her husband and her new country. And Jeremy, the reserved husband of a renowned actress, is accompanying his wife on a film shoot, yet he feels distant from her world.
As they meet with their tutors—Josie with Nico, a sensitive poet; Riley with Phillippe, a shameless flirt; and Jeremy with the consummately beautiful Chantal—each succumbs to unexpected passion and unpredictable adventures. Yet as they traverse Paris’s grand boulevards and intimate, winding streets, they uncover surprising secrets about one another—and come to understand long-buried truths about themselves. My Thoughts:
French Lessons by Ellen Sussman is the next best thing to actually going to Paris this summer. French Lessons follows three Americans and their French tutors during a day in Paris. The story is told in three intersecting vignettes and readers will be captivated by this sensual novel filled with longing, love, and loss.
This novel is utterly saturated with sensuality. From the sexy French language to the relationships that are explored throughout the book, Sussman takes readers on a journey through the most romantic city in the world. I visited Paris once several years ago with my husband and this book made me long to go back. I suggest reading this one while listening to the soundtrack to the film Le Divorce. It is the perfect book to transport you to a foreign land on a lazy summer day.

What fun to visit (sort of) France for the summer! Those French do seem to know something special about sensuality. Thanks for the review.
I just saw Midnight in Paris yesterday and it made me long for France. I have a feeling this book would do the same thing.
Since I won’t be going to Paris any time soon I’ll definitely have to pick this up since you say it’s the next best thing!
Thanks for being on the tour. I’m featuring your review on TLC’s Facebook page today.
I am almost finished this book and have loved every minute of it. A very good read.
