I have always lived by the old adage, “A house is not a home without a dog.” I have two dogs and they are treated like part of the family. Suffice it to say in my family we are most definitely dog people! As a result, my children love dogs and are especially partial to picture books that feature dogs. So, I was really excited when I got the chance to purchase an early copy of the book Wiener Wolf by Jeff Crosby at the ALA conference.

Wiener Wolf Wiener Wolf (Disney Hyperion, ages 4 to 7 years, July 2011) is the story of a dachshund tired of living a boring life with Granny, his owner. He yearns to live in the wild with the pack of wolves he sees on television. Eventually he makes it to the woods and finds life with the wolf pack isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

My son loved the beautiful illustrations by Jeff Crosby throughout the book. The story entertained him, and when we finished reading, he asked to read it again. Three readings later he climbed into a chair to look at the pictures on his own. I have no doubt that Wiener Wolf is going to be a summer favorite in the Well-Read Wife household!
