My Thoughts:

Kelly Keaton’s debut young adult novel Darkness Becomes Her takes the heavily tread upon territory of vampires,werewolves and witches and goes in a bold, new direction.  Keaton takes the usual paranormal staples and adds Greek mythology  into the mix. Now take this combination, throw in a kick butt heroine, add an  awesome setting and the results are this spectacular novel.

Ari, the heroine reminds me so much of the tough, gritty heroines in adult urban fantasy novels. Ari is up there with the likes of Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake and Nalini Singh’s Elena Deveraux. She is THAT well-written and vivid a character! Ari represents the type of independent, tough character that I wish teen girls could see more of in YA.

The plot plays out against the backdrop of a devastated New Orleans. In Keaton’s New Orleans a group of families called the Novem now own the city and it has been renamed New 2.The book’s plot deals with Ari’s search to uncover secrets from her past. And the secret from her past is a whopper! Keaton drops subtle hints throughout the book regarding the secret, but the reveal is still shocking. I cannot wait to read the next book in this exciting new series! Don’t keep us waiting for the next book Kelly Keaton!
