Summary:

Romance was not part of Nora Grey’s plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen — and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life. (Summary provided by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.)

My Thoughts:

Warning: Contains Spoilers

I initially had a problem or two when I first started reading Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. First, when Nora first met Patch in Biology class I found myself muttering, “If they start arguing about prophase and anaphase, I’m outta here dude.” But they didn’t and all was right with my world again. But then I was like, Wait a second! This guy’s name is Patch? And then all I could think of was this:

Yes, that’s Patch from that soap opera. And I immediately pictured him in the exact picture that I swiped from NBC and posted above. I wasn’t even sure which soap opera he’s on. I just knew that there’s a character named Patch and he looks like that. I eventually had to look it up, because it was bugging me. Turns out he is on Days of Our Lives. It took me a couple of chapters of Hush, Hush to wipe that image from my mind. But it’s probably a testament to Fitzpatrick’s ‘mad writing skillz’ that I was able to let go of creepy, old, soap opera Patch and latch on to hot Hush, Hush Patch. Patch is a bad boy. His best friend has sexy Irish brogue (I’m a sucker for a brogue), and they do things like roll around on the floor and talk about bare knuckle boxing together. I swear I did not make up that last tid bit. I swear it. Patch shoots pool at a place called Bo’s, and when he’s not gambling or playing poker he’s riding around on his motorcycle. So yes,I developed a bit of a crush on Patch.Ya know. Come to think of it. I think the other Patch might be a bad boy too. I mean he has an actual eye patch and that long luxurious mullet.

Once I was able to fully immerse myself in the world Fitzpatrick created, I found myself thoroughly enjoying the spooky landscape filled with fog and a creepy amusement park. I also loved the witty banter between Nora and her best friend Vee. Although at times, Patch creeped me out, I found myself really wanting things to work out for him and Nora. I enjoyed the Angel mythology Fitzpatrick created for the book. It was fairly intricate and more importantly, believable. I read Hush, Hush because I am participating in the Barnes & Noble Sneak Peek of the sequel Crescendo. I highly recommend Hush, Hush and I can’t wait to read Crescendo.

I had the same issue at first with that biology class scene, then he spoke with such wit that i was hooked. I’ve not heard of the CBS Patch, but he seems more sea dog then bad boy from the picture.
Fantastic review. And all the more amazing as it was read on a nook!

Haven’t read this yet but now that I’ve seen this soap opera Patch guy, the image is going to be stuck in my head! haha, well, I’ll have to take your word for it when you say that the image will eventually be wiped from my mind when reading this. Fun review, thanks!
